Bll 2009 will showcase Building Information Modelling (BIM) and demonstrate how it brings value to a project. In the process it will achieve a number of firsts including the biggest BIM ever to be produced.
| designed to educate Bll will educate government, industry, clients, & the public about the benefits of BIM. It will show how BIM is more than just a 3D CAD model and demonstrate how it enhances communication & collaboration and professionalises the construction industry.
are we doing that? A Bll objective is for clients & developers to always specify a BIM on their projects. Bll will remove some of the 'mystique' about BIM, show that it benefits everyone in the built environment, and hopefully provoke the question "If they can make the worlds largest BIM in 72 hours, then surely we can use one on our project".
promoting interoperability Bll will show that the software tools needed to create BIMs are readily available and widely used. Bll will be vendor independent and interoperability will be achieved using the BuildingSmart™ IFC standard.
CAD vendor inclusive Bll's policy is to have at least one team using software from all of the main CAD vendors; AutoCAD Architecture & Revit, ArchiCAD, EliteCAD, MicroStation, Vector Works, Digital Project etc. A PDF's explaining the differences between them and the processes they use will be circulated.
multi-discipline BIM analysis Bll will show how huge efficiencies can be made through BIM collaboration. It will demonstrate that a BIM includes all the disciplines and that by sharing information deliverables can be produced extremely quickly. Teams will be asked to deliver their BIM’s with a full set of 2D drawings, MEP designs & calculations, structural calculations & analysis, 4D constructability studies, sun, shadow, wind & air flow analysis, energy analysis & costs, cost calculations, asset and facilities management information.
integrated applications Bll will show how building Smart™ lets teams using different software applications exchange information with each other using IFC and collaborate on the worlds largest ever BIM. Bll will ask software vendors in the BIM sector to participate either directly or through their users so the event can claim the most software applications ever to have been used on a single construction project. Specialist companies using high-tech BIM analysis applications will be introduced to the teams and invited to collaborate with them. |
