next page previous page This years Build London Live design & engineering collaboration is set in the Thames Estuary with a hypothetical master plan for the Thames Gateway regeneration.

Bll 2008

With just 10 teams, Bll 2008 produced enough BIM content to populate most of the Greenwich Peninsula. This year’s event is expected to grow and consequently a bigger site is required. Where Bll 2008 produced 10 alternative BIMs of the same scheme, Bll 2009 will be a true collaboration with all teams contributing to a single scheme.

urban master plan

Bll 2009 will be set on a new man-made island situated in the Thames Estuary just off Southend. The design competition will involve teams creating BIM’s for a sustainable, high-density mixed use 'urban village' containing residential units, employment uses, leisure, local services, public realm and open spaces etc.

Site Context

in context with other schemes

Bll will be set in context with other proposals including a new airport built on reclaimed land, a multi modal road & rail tunnel under the Thames connecting Canvey Island to the Medway, a tidal power plant within a surge tide barrier for London and a bioregional eco-parkland area. The railway stations linking Bll to the other schemes will be part of the BIM event.
